Welcome to our Journey: Salve Sports Tourism in Ireland

Welcome to the official blog for Salve Regina University’s Sports Tourism in Ireland program! Over the next few weeks, we invite you to follow along as our students dive into the rich cultural and economic world of sports tourism - all while traveling through one of the most beautiful and historically vibrant countries in the world.

This faculty-led academic program brings together 18 students from diverse academic backgrounds to explore how sports shape national identity, tourism development, and international perceptions.

Along the way, we’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Attend the Joe McDonagh Cup and the Leinster Hurling Final at Croke Park
  • Explore the GAA Museum in Dublin
  • Meet a member of the Limerick City Council who will discuss plans for the Ryder Cup coming to Limerick in 2027
  • Visit the Cliffs of Moher
  • Learn from the Head of Tourism for County Cork
  • Explore the famous Bunratty Castle
  • Surf in Lahinch of County Clare
  • And visit many local organizations and cultural sites that reflect Ireland’s enduring spirit and storytelling through sport!

Special thanks to our incredible partners at Mary Immaculate College in Limerick who are graciously hosting our group throughout our time in Ireland. We are deeply grateful for their hospitality and partnership.

Each day, our rotating student leaders will post updates here—including reflections, photos, lessons learned, and behind-the-scenes glimpses of the day’s adventures. These posts are designed to not only capture our academic exploration, but also the personal growth and camaraderie that travel inspires.

We hope this blog becomes a space where family, friends, faculty, and the Salve community can feel connected to our journey and even be inspired to see the world through the lens of sport, culture, and education.

Thank you for following along. Let the journey begin!
