Escape the Lectures

 Day 8

Today while it was a very interesting day, we didn't have much travel. We had four lectures, the lectures consisted of Rory McGann who is a lecturer at MIC, but also has heavy involvement in the GAA through refereeing the games. We also had Evan from Witness Ireland who came to talk about how he started his tourism business and what the ins and out look like. It was a very insightful talk. He runs a student-focused tourism operation and now wants to branch out to try to get more people to come from the states to take his tours across Ireland. Our third lecture was with the one and only Doctor Varao. In that discussion, we talked about the pros and cons of tourism, primarily in relation to the economy and the environment. Lastly we talk to Caoimhe Costelloe who is an elite camogie player with her club, school (MIC), and for her county.

This picture is from when Rory McGann came to talk about referring for the GAA. He brought along with him all
the referring uniforms and the other position gear that go along with it. At the end of his lecture we tried to make
calls based off of clips of real plays that he called.

Here is Evan talking about Witness Ireland. He shared some interesting insight on his business and how he started it. He wanted the lecture to be more of a conversation and that opened it up and allowed the class to build ideas on what he was saying. He shared great information and then he talked about all of the ways he wanted to expand.

Here you can find the link to Evans website to look more into Witness Ireland.

This was our last guest speaker before Doc took the stage, Caoimhe Costelloe, she is a very elite camogie player. She has always been involved in the games and as a little girl she had always played with her club. She developed as a player and at the age of 15 she got the call to play for County Clare. She talked a lot about the balance of being on a county team and a club while also playing in college and balancing school. She had lots of great things to say, and gave great insight on being an elite athlete. As most of us are college athletes and that is the highest we will play Danny asked Caoimhe a great question. Danny said “it’s mad impressive you play at the county level. Was it a hard jump from club?” She gave us lots of in ight on the balance but also what the jump what like at a young age.

Lastly we went to Escape Limerick, the Limerick escape room, this was a good team building activity. We had so much fun while doing these, while my group didn’t get out we had a great time. Only one of the groups had gotten out within the hour. While in the escape rooms there was a button to get out and Jess said “can we press it” obviously we didn’t but might have wanted to instead of being the only group that didn’t make it out.
